CINNAMON
Cinnamon is a spice that is commonly used in cooking and is known for its warm, sweet, and slightly spicy flavor. It is obtained from the bark of trees in the Cinnamomum family and is native to Sri Lanka and other parts of Southeast Asia.
Cinnamon is available in two forms: cinnamon sticks (also called quills) and ground cinnamon. Cinnamon sticks are used whole and can be added to stews, rice dishes, and hot beverages such as tea and cider. Ground cinnamon is more commonly used in baking, such as in cinnamon rolls and apple pie.
Cinnamon is a good source of antioxidants and has been associated with several health benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving blood sugar control, and improving brain function.
When using cinnamon in cooking, it is important to use it in moderation, as its flavor can be quite strong. Ground cinnamon should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for best flavor. Cinnamon sticks can be stored in an airtight container for up to a year. Cinnamon can also be combined with other spices, such as ginger and nutmeg, to create flavorful spice blends.
