NON-BASMATI
Non-Basmati rice refers to any type of rice that is not Basmati rice. There are many different varieties of non-Basmati rice, and they are grown in various parts of the world, including Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa.
Unlike Basmati rice, non-Basmati rice does not have the same fragrant aroma and delicate flavor. However, it can still be a delicious and versatile ingredient in many dishes. Non-Basmati rice varieties include long-grain rice, medium-grain rice, short-grain rice, and wild rice.
Long-grain rice is the most commonly consumed type of non-Basmati rice, and it is widely used in many cuisines around the world. It has a firm texture and does not stick together when cooked, making it a great option for dishes such as fried rice, biryanis, and casseroles.
Medium-grain rice is shorter and wider than long-grain rice, and it tends to be more moist and tender when cooked. It is often used in dishes such as sushi and risotto.
Short-grain rice is round and plump, and it has a higher starch content than other types of rice. It is commonly used in dishes such as paella and rice pudding.
Wild rice is not actually a type of rice but is instead a type of grass seed that is often used as a rice substitute. It has a nutty flavor and a chewy texture and is commonly used in salads and pilafs.
Non-Basmati rice is a good source of carbohydrates and provides some protein and dietary fiber. It can be cooked in a variety of ways, including boiling, steaming, and frying, and it can be seasoned with a variety of herbs, spices, and sauces to create delicious and flavorful dishes.
